Greer Garson in her Scottish grab reminds me of...

the Scottish Lass on the packaging of Macdonald tobacco products. Anyone else in Canada notice that?

reply

Yes, I just did! I'm wondering if they based it on her--when was that package launched?

reply

Was it just me or was she slightly odd as in this act? It just didn't jive with me.

reply

it's some great jive.

Greer Garson is an actress whose work never ceases to amaze me. Going back to a period in film before I was even born let alone watching films is to some extent problematic because of the non-linear nature of the enterprise. But in the last three or so years I have had the pleasure of being able to add to my previous favorites of this era, such as Bette Davis, Vivien Leigh, Carole Lombard and others, a newfound love and respect for especially Joan Fontaine and Greer Garson. I literally think both of them belong on my favorite top ten actresses of all time!

Each time I see one of Greer's films for the first time, my amazement again is raised. Yes, some of her films work less well than others. But she is always great. Did she have any bad performances?

reply

totally agree.

and can't recall a bad perf.
