The song "Always" has its own love story.
Irving Berlin's second wife, Ellin McKay, was a wealthy Catholic socialite. Her father disapproved of the match, either because Berlin was Jewish or because he was a songwriter, and disowned his daughter upon her marriage. Berlin wrote the song "Always" for his wife and assigned all the royalties to her as a wedding gift, so that she would not feel she was dependent on him. The two were married for 62 years, before her death.
So it is not only one of Berlin's best known love songs, but totally appropriate to the love story between Lou and Eleanor.
It is not our abilities that show who we truly are...it is our choices
