Pied Piper, 1942 movie with Monty Woolley, Anne Baxter

Does anyone know how I can buy (or rent) a VHS tape of this movie? I can't find it, but know it exists. It's so well done by actors and director, and so faithful to the novel by Nevil Shute, that I would like to have it to show how a movie version of a book should be done. Also, although it's old, the human story is timeless.
Thanks.

I too have been looking for a video of "The Pied Piper," Someone on eBay offered one, but when the bidding reached $56 I decided to pass. The jacket in the photo looked like a studio offering, but the seller was in Hollywood, so who knows? I have also seen "Crossing to Freedom," the remake of "Pied Piper" starring Peter O'Toole, on eBay, but the tape was in PAL format, virtually useless in the US.
Let me know if you find something. The book was a great read - especially the ending - and I would really love to see the movie.

My wife and I have also been searching for years for this movie. After doing a Google search with Nevil Shute as the key words, I went to the Nevil Shute Society homepage and requested a copy from their library. They don't sell videos, but they did mail me a copy to borrow. It arrived safely and I dubbed a copy to DVD and returned it to them. We now have a personal copy of the film THE PIED PIPER starring Monty Whooly.

You could try www.nevilshute.org. Maybe they can lend you a copy. Or try this link: http://www.nevilshute.org/Holdings/usbranch.php

I just looked up "The Inspector General" on Amazon, and the combo film with it is "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" with Van Johnson, a completely different film. I was able to get a VHS copy of the Monty Woolley version on eBay from a seller called Ramblin' Jack. It's a good clear copy; maybe he is still offering this film. It can't hurt to try. Good luck!

My copy came from CINEMAX way back in the 90s. Beautiful print. I watched it last night. One of a kind film. The scenes between Wooley and Preminger are priceless.
