Highest Ranked A+C Movie on IMDB

I noticed Pardon My Sarong comes in with a 7.7 rating, making it the highest rated A&C movie on IMDB, beating out A&C Meet Frankenstein, Who Done It?, Hold That Ghost, Buck Privates and all the rest of their movies. Does it deserve to be singled out as the best A&C movie? I loved it and thought there were lots of great scenes (the baseball story at the gas station, Marco the Magician, the drink switching scene, "Go ahead, back up," Lou ordering a second ice cream and Bud letting him have it, Lou trying to eat his last bean on the boat and Bud guilt tripping him). It's definitely high up there on my A&C list. But Number 1? I don't know. What do you think? Anybody?

In terms of exotic locations and such, then it's definitely the best. It also features some of their best work. I wouldn't call it the best though. I feel that Buck Privates, Meet Frankenstein, Naughty Nineties, Who Done It?, and HOld That Ghost are all better. Still, they're close enough that I won't argue the point.

I love Pardon my Sarong, but any best of A & C list should start with Meet Frankenstein.

Doesn't Who Done It? have a 7.8 IMDb score?

MOO!!!

Are you convinced yet?

Who Done It? has passed Pardon My Sarong, I noticed. When I originally posted this, I believe Who Done It? had a 7.5 rating. Now it has gone up to 7.8. Interestingly, another A&C film that has climbed on IMDB since I first posted this is The Time of Their Lives (1946), which is now 7.9 and therefore the highest ranked A&C Movie.

I pretty much like all of the A&C films, but I have to say that "The Time Of Their Lives" has always been my favorite.

Well, PARDON MY SARONG is one of their best, but no, MEET FRANKENSTEIN, BUCK PRIVATES, HOLD THAT GHOST, and RIDE 'EM COWBOY have it beat in my opinion.

This is an excellent thread - thank you for all these great posts. I'm surprised that since I first posted this comment five years ago, Pardon My Sarong has dropped to 7.3. I've noticed that several other Abbott and Costello films have also seen declining scores, including Who Done It (which is now down to 7.6, from its high of 7.8) and The Time of Their Lives (down to 7.7 from a high of 8). Too bad. I love Bud and Lou's movies.

Back up to 7.7! With a little luck, maybe it'll close in on 8...

I keep watching the movie in the background and haven't given it my fullest attention all the way through, but I will say this for the film: the music is fantastic. They chose very catchy songs. The "Do I Worry?" at the beginning, and while the native song later is meh, the follow-up song with the girl singing and dancing around is awesome and, again, really catchy.

Hold That Ghost's music grew on me, so I enjoy the Andrews Sisters song as well as the couple of weird club songs that we hear. (Forgot the guy's name.) And Here Come the Co-Eds's classical music is astounding, especially the performance of Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen.

So that definitely helps.

One of my favorite movies of theirs, Hit the Ice, the music in that one is really kind of boring (though I like it when the arrangements kick in to include background singers).
