'Laverne and Shirley'!

As soon as the landlord showed them the apartment, I cried aloud, "Laverne & Shirley! It's just like their setup!" Definitely, this had to be the inspiration for that series though there are some adjustments. They have a male landlord, not a female one, but so much of it, including their barred window with its street scene!

Did anyone else think this upon seeing the movie? I'm watching it right now and don't recall seeing it before though I probably did, perhaps in childhood. I'd seen the remake, but even that was long ago. After all, I'm in my late 50s and likely have had as many movies slip my mind as I've seen. (Just teasing! I'm one of those identify-the-mystery-movie addicts!)

I'm the same age and thought the same thing. Then at the end, Robert Osborne mentioned that Betty Garrett was in the remake, and that closed the circle even more.

That's why I kept thinking of Betty Garrett! I likely was remembering the musical version. Sometimes when I'm watching a movie, I come to the realization that I have seen it, likely more than once. Maybe after you reach a certain point, maybe your 5,000th movie or something, you start being forgetful about the older ones as you're adding new experiences.

At least I understand why Betty kept coming to mind. Now, if they'll show the musical someday soon...

It's funny, I can remember that I've seen some movie 45 years ago, even remember what channel or what theater it was, half the cast and the director's name, but forget the plot details.

This was the first time that I've seen My Sister Eileen, although when I was a kid, my best friend raved about the film. It lived up to expectations.

I have a memory problem due to illnesses I've had for more than half my life, which is why I'm happy when I do remember things. For example, I remember going to see "Tobor the Great" at the drive-in when I was about 4-5 years old. I also clearly recall various others. Then, fibromyalgia and other syndromes decided to wreck my mental clarity.

Still, Internet Movie Critic, Y!A Movies and other sites assure me that I'm not as forgetful as I sometimes fear I've become. It's just that I'm accustomed to remembering practically every Oscar presented and all of the nominees, as well as casts of movies, etc. (Then came the first time I got lost in a city I grew up in~then the second time... *SIGH*)

So, I keep a film journal full of notes, and I keep watching movies~five or six a day. I especially like to jot down connections among films and actors. Yes, I'm a film buff and a credit crawler.

By the way: I got a kick out of spotting June Havoc! The most recent thing I saw her in was "Can't Stop the Music"!

Anyway, I hope to be able to catch the original again, as well as the musical.

This was the second night in a row that I saw June Havoc in a film. Last night, TCM aired Brewster's Millions and she was in that also.

Let me tell you, having a good memory can be more of a curse than a blessing. There's a lot of stuff that I wish I could forget, and it sometimes takes a bit of effort to keep such memories in the back of my mind.

Yup, have to agree. Probably explains why this movie annoyed me so much.

Yes you can almost picture Gary Marshall the creator of "Laverne and Shirley" sitting in a NYC movie theater watching this.
