$45 a month??

According to the trivia section the authoress and her sister Eileen rented an apartment on Gay Street in Greenwich Village for $45/month. This seem outrageously exorbitant for 1934. Most non-luxury apartments were going for well below $20/month particularly during the depression.

Does anyone have any information? Thanks.
