Fonda couldn't do drunk

Henry Fonda in The Male Animal is, to me, the most unconvincing drunk ever. I don't know if it's his fault or that of Director Eliot Nugent. I think mainly it's his reading of the lines that spoils it for me. Otherwise I'm pretty fond of this film.
