Great fun

Outlandish as it may have been in 1942, it is extremely outlandish in 2008 for a movie to based on a comical kidnapping. The far fetched idea is what is the comedy. As if to watch it the entire time and say to yourself, "Oh yeah right," with a smile. The mere fact of a celebrity with hazy sense of reality concocting a relationship with a "baby doctor" (ha ha) is silly, it's supposed to be. Her home life is rather hysterical. I had Nathan Lane in my mind when watching her manager and quite a few ladies to fill her assistant's shoes. :) Oh and the hilariousness of Ms. Marietta Canty is truly divine. I do love her talent. Anyone else enjoy this film?

It was pretty ok, I watched it last night.

My favorite part is when he kisses her, goes to the door and then comes back and kisses her a second time with the bedroom door closing; I like how the maid ask in the morning how she sees a contented look on Marlene's face.

"I promise you before I die, I'll surely come to your doorstep"

I saw it for the first time this morning on TCM.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, except for the kidnapping part!

Why didn't they just use the plot of a single woman wanting
to adopt a baby, without having her kidnap one?

I especially enjoyed Marlene's wardrobe! I do so love fur coats, minks, etc.,
(no offence to my animal rights activists friends on this board); but for that
era, and for someone that glamorous; you had to have some fur coats in there
somewhere. The clothing, jewels, furnishings, were fabulous.

Check out the baby's nursery!

Nobody "rags" like Marlene Dietrich!

How can it be kidnapping when the baby was abandoned in an apartment?! Back then, I think she was being more sensible than they gave her credit for. The child would have been stuck in some home for orphans and abandoned children instead of being loved and pampered by a woman who was ready to sacrifice her jewels and other luxuries just to keep the child. We also know that she isn't solvent because she sends money to various people. What better mother could there be for an abandoned baby who was being argued over by police and the landlord?

The whole cast is wonderful! It's nice to see Ms. Canty, who plays the housekeeper for Plato (Sal Mineo) in "Rebel Without a Cause", someone who acts as his parent more than a servant.

I'm watching this on TCM, the first time I've every gotten to see this. I wish that I had videotaped it, as I've enjoyed it very much and couldn't jot down all of the quotations I like. I have the flu, and my short-term memory problem multiplies when I'm sick. The only line I have is: "Go sterilize yourself, Ken." *giggle*
