the music

Is it just me or does some of the Music sound like Star Wars ??

reply

I thought it had faint strains of Superman The Movie, particularly when Parris (shown only from the legs) walks offscreen as a boy and walks back onscreen as a man. Perhaps John Williams was influenced by this film (as well as whoever put together the Superman first appearance in the Fortress scene).

You got it. Korngold influenced Williams... a lot.

In another thread a viewer accused John Williams of ripping off Erick Korngold. I replied that he was right in hearing bits of this theme in the theme for "Superman, the Movie," and again in "Star Wars: A New Hope," but he was wrong in characterizing it as a "rip off." Many composers have 'sampled' snippets of other works in their own compositions. I used the example of Antonin Dvorak sampling bits of Ludwig Beethoven's "Ninth Symphony" in Dvorak's own "Ninth Symphony," also known as "New World Symphony" or "From the New World."
