the ending?

can anyone tell me the ending? i was watching it then got a phone call and doubt i will be able to see it for a long time...what happened after Lousie told Parris about her father? who was that girl Parris met by the lake? Did Drake and Randy really get married? why was Drake laughing at then end and Parris and Randy look so worried? who was that girl Parris was running to in the field at the very end? I know it's lots of questions, but like i said, i'm not going to be able to see it for a while!

Yes Drake and Randy were married. Randy truely loved him.

Parris had to struggle with the delema: keep Louise quiet
by "committing her" to keep from hurting Drake any further OR...
Tell Drake the truth - helping Louise. Realizing that Drake
wasn't doing so well as it was and not wanting to destroy Louise,
Parris took a chance and let the truth out! Of course Parris and
Randy were worried how Drake would take the news. Drake laughing
at the end was his reaction to the truth.

The girl Parris was with by the lake was living in his childhood
home. Sparks flew when they met. She is the same girl running to
him at the end.

"Happily ever after" is the end of film theme!

Which is nothing like the original novel, where Louise Gordon is actually committed, and Drake eventually dies from his amputations.

Actress Kaaren Verne played the girl running down the hill toward Parris
at the end of the movie, accompanied by that magnificent Korngold score.

In the remake, she trips over her own feet while running, breaks both her legs and they have to be amputated. Since she now has so much in common with Drake, the latter divorces Randy and marries her. Parris, who has always really loved Randy, marries her and everyone then lives happily ever after. That is, until the post WW 1 flu epidemic disposes of all of them.
