Baron Ikito reminds me of Toht (Raiders of the Lost Ark)

Steven Spielberg said that Ronald Lacey was chosen for the part because he reminded him of Peter Lorre. In this film, he wears a nearly identical outfit in his opening scene and is introduced in a very similar manner to the way that Toht is introduced in Raiders. Even the windows of Raymond's shop are very similar in nature to Marion Ravenwood's.

I can't help but wonder if this was the role that inspired that character design. The only other time I recall Peter Lorre playing a member of the Axis Powers was in All Through the Night (1941), but that character was nothing like this.
