The Baby Jane Voice

Bette perfected a sort of cracked, plaintive, nasal sort of voice in this film when she is in her worst trouble which she used to perfection also in her more poignant moments of Baby Jane. I cannot recall her using this voice in any other of her films. It is powerful, sort of child-like, nasal and marvelous.

So true! Even some of the dialogue was the same (or quite similar).

'That's not a hairstyle, it's a cry for help!'

I believe it's the voice when she's berating her uncle for not helping her? Quite scary and even scarier as Baby Jane.

reply

Yes, that would be the moment it really comes out as does her complete indifference to his dying.
