A classic Wayne western movie

I've watched 'Old California' several times and Wayne does a great job in his role as a Bostonian Pharmacist (Tom Craig). He comes to Sacramento just before the 1849 Gold Rush and sets up shop as the local Pharmacist. He has to deal with local the boss Britt Dawson played to perfection by Albert Dekker. Of course there's the love interests as a saloon girl, Lacey, and a Spanish Don's daughter, Ellen, have romantic feelings for Craig. Craig is immediately drawn to the lovely Ellen but doesn't realize that the equally lovely Lacey has similar feelings.
In the end Ellen proves to be self-indulged and Lacey shows more character and courage when a fever epidemic hits a local gold mine at the outset of the California Gold Rush. Lacey works along side Tom providing supplies and medical assistance to those struck by the fever. The final scene shows the back of Tom and Lacey arm-in-arm.
This movie is not Oscar worthy but it does show John Wayne's acting skills as he portrays a very convincing Pharmacist. He also displays some toughness as a transplanted easterner now living in the west. His cultured Bostonian ways don't set well with some of the local folks but he adjusts quickly. What I like about Wayne is how he thoroughly embraces his roles.

please, and with all respect, if you are going to describe a major aspect of the final scene, you should headline that paragraph with Spoiler Alert! it is commonly accepted practice on these pages. thank you. alvin 42
