**UPDATED 6/25/14 to reflect the passing of actress Carla Laemmle, niece of Universal Studios founder Carl Laemmle. At the time of her death, Carla was one of a handful of surviving actors from the silent film era --- "Phantom of the Opera" (1925). IT WAS CARLA who ushered in the sound era for Universal horror films by speaking the first lines of dialogue in "Dracula" (1931) --- "Among the rugged peaks that frown down upon the Borgo Pass, are found crumbling castles of a bygone age." In addition to bit parts in 2 early Hollywood musicals --- "The Broadway Melody" (1928) and "King of Jazz" (1930) --- Carla also appeared in the Universal chiller "Mystery of Edwin Drood" (1935). Carla lived to the age of 104 (!!!) and passed away on June 12, 2014.

**ALSO UPDATED to reflect the passing (on 5/21/14) of B-movie actress Jane Adams, who played Nina, the hunchbacked nurse, in 1945's "House of Dracula." Jane appeared in one other Universal thriller -- 1946's "The Brute Man," which was released by Producers Releasing Corporation (because Universal was trying to distance itself from its B-movie horror product at the time). Jane Adams' other notable films include the Lionel Atwill serial "Lost City of the Jungle" (1946), the film noir classic "He Walked By Night" (1948), "Tarzan's Magic Fountain" (1949), and "Batman and Robin" (1949), where she became the first actress to portray Batman's girlfriend Vicki Vale onscreen. Jane also guest-starred in two early TV classics -- "The Cisco Kid" in 1950 and "Adventures of Superman" in 1953.

That's a great list! Very comprehensive. I searched through the old Universal Monster Movies and you really covered the bases well. There's also Michael Ansara, who was in Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy (I don't know if that one really counts). But I believe he's still alive. He recently performed voices in the Batman cartoons (as Mr. Freeze).

Still, it's sad to see how few of the Universal Monster Movie veterans are with us. Thanks for the wonderful list.

Great list!

I know that Gloria Stuart played the old woman in the 1997 film Titanic. Are others on this list still active in movie business?
