Was William Smith really in this film?

Veteran B-movie actor William Smith has claimed for many years that he was in Ghost of Frankenstein, playing the boy who kicks Cloestine's ball onto the roof of a building, only to be frightened away by the Monster. However, in a recent interview with Fangoria, Janet Ann Gallow, who played Cloestine, said that the boy in question was not William Smith, and there is evidence to back this up; for instance, Smith was born in 1934, which would have made him eight years old in 1942, but the boy in the film looks to be at least eleven, maybe twelve years old. Does anyone out there know the truth?

Smith IS in the scene -- but NOT as the kid who kicks Cloestine's ball. As the three bullies get ready to pick on Cloestine, he's a kid extra in the distant background. Later in the scene, he's standing behind Cloestine's father as he (the father) looks up at the Monster and Cloestine on the roof. Then in the courthouse scene that follows, he's one of the spectators in the crowded doorway, on the left hand side of the screen. So Smith is just an extra in GHOST OF FRANK, but he likes to tell people that he had the more prominent role of the kid who kicked the ball.

Soooo... Ya like stuff?

reply

Right -- in the brief shot in which Cloestine stands in the doorway, Smith looks at her and then back toward the camera, and if you freeze-frame at this precise moment, you'll see an unmistakable William Smith face.

Didn't he play in "Fresh Prince?"

reply

Yeah, I remember this guy. He was Conan the Barbarian's father in the first film with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was also in a lot of TV shows, including an episode of Columbo called "The Greenhouse Jungle," which also starred Ray Milland as the special guest killer.

reply

He was in Men In Black.

reply

That was Willard Christopher Smith Jr., also known as The Fresh Prince.
He has yet to appear in any Frankenstein movie.

It's true! I chopped him up. But I didn't kill him!

reply

I think he is easiest to spot in the courtroom scene near doorway.. Some of his Characters are scarier than Frankenstein Monster. But, he seems like such a nice guy in interviews.
