the synopsis

There were certain things about the synopsis that cracked me up. The person who wrote it said that Judy was mid-career but "still looked youthful." Well, considering she started making movies at the age of 14 and was only 20 when she made this movie, she would look youthful. The reviewer was also surprised that Gene Kelly didn't look more boyish in this, his first film. But Gene was 30 when this film was made, ten years older than "veteran" actress Judy.

Haha, she does look youthful though, doesn't she?

I hadn't read that, but it's quite funny.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom. Maybe that's the trouble with me.

I had pretty much the same reaction in regards to the look of Garland and Kelly. I had to check their bios to see how old they actually were.

By the time she made this movie, her first adult role, Judy had been in the business for years. At that time, people had been used to seeing her and watched her grow up from a fresh-faced girl into an older version of herself. Since she also often played younger than her real age people may have thought she was older than she was. I've seen a lot of her movies but not in the order they were made. I also never paid much attention to when she was born so I wasn't always able to tell how old she was. I remember when I first learned she died at forty seven I was surprised. I've seen her in movies that were probably made years before she died and in them she looks a lot older than forty seven.

Even after learning she was only twenty in this movie, I didn't think she looked it. Since she had already been on the pills and having the many problems, like fatigue and drastic weight fluctuations, for which she was given the pills, maybe they had already started to take their toll. Who knows.

Since this was Kelly's debut film, I assumed he'd be younger. I thought he looked basically the same in all his films so I thought in this one I'd see a younger version of himself. Nope, he looks exactly the same. It's all relative.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
