This movie is sometimes confused with MY GAL Sal, a technicolor musical with Rita Hayworth & Victor Mature, which was also from 1942. There is also a non-musical film from 1932, ME AND MY GAL, with Spencer Tracy & Joan Bennett.

Like you said there are similarities in title but that's about it. I don't think I've seen 'Me and my gal' but I'd guess it's a different story line. I liked this movie but I can't imagine Spencer Tracy being in a movie like this one.
I have seen 'My gal Sal'. That is a far better movie than this one and, as I recall, it was based on a true story. By the way, I don't think 'For me and my gal' was the right title for this movie. It doesn't seem to describe anything I saw in the movie.
