God is My Co-Pilot (1945)

This WWII era movie is a more accurate portrayal of the American Volunteer Group, the "Flying Tigers". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0037746/

This movie is told from the perspective of a real member of the Flying Tigers, Col. Robert Lee Scott http://www.39thflighteagle.org/Heroes/RobertScott.htm

This film was made during WWII and contains period portrayals of the Japanese, but the planes, especially the P-40s (and B-17s, B-25s, DC-3, P-43) are real. As usual, AT-6s are "stand-ins" for the Japanese Zeroes.

Unfortunately, this film is not widely available on DVD and it is rarely shown on cable.

Just watched "Flying Tigers", during which I was going - Where have I seen this story before? - even so, I thoroughly enjoyed it. John Wayne did a great job as did the rest of the cast. So, after reading the above I watched "God is my co-pilot".

It is certainly more correct in its dates and tells the story of a real person but man does it suck. No actors - well, Raymond Massey but but he never did anything remarkable and certainly does not here. Really lousy writing - one expects cliches but every single time an enemy is shot down there is a corny quip to go along.

Anyway, watch Tigers for an engaging remake of Angels but only watch Co-pilot to impress your church going relatives.

There's only one Capt. Jim Gordon!
