US airmen fighting Japan BEFORE Pearl Harbor.

Wouldn't this be considered an unofficial act of war by the US even though the Americans were under Chinese command?
Same thing with US warships attacking German U Boats before the US officially entered the war when the Germans were tryin to sink US supply ships goin to Britain.

These things hardly seem neutral which was supposed to be the American government's foreign policy pre WWII.

They may have been Americans but they were not U.S. Military.
They were mercenaries employed by the Chinese.

The Tigers did not actually get into combat until after Pearl Harbor. They had all resigned their US commissions and been hired by a "private" company Camco, Central Aircraft Manfacturing Company, which was contracted to China. Therefore there was no official connection to the US Government.
As a side note, the flyers had been promised that if/when the US entered the war, they would be reinstated to their previous rank and with no loss of seniority. That did not happen exactly as promised.

I'm pretty sure the same thing happened to the Americans who fought in Spain with the International Brigade.
