A VERY MISLEADING FILM!

This is a fascinating subject ... the evolution of war planes from WW1 to WW2 ... and how Germany forced England to desperately catch up. This is certainly great subject matter for a great movie ... but this is not that movie.

Actually this is a very misleading film ... making like the Spitfire and the work of RJ Mitchell was England's savior. In reality the Spitfire was not the savior of England ... it was the Hawker Hurricane ... which were deployed 6 months before the first Spits.

At the start of WW2 (Sept 1939) England had 347 Hurricanes and 244 Spits in her air force. So yes there was an arms race between Hawker and Supermarine ... and Supermarine (Mitchell) where not the winners or innovators.

Fact ... by the end of the Battle Of Britain the Hurricanes scored 860 kills while the Spits had 485 ... yet this film never even mentions Hurricanes or Hawker.

There are many other issues where this film misleads (no he did not work himself to death ... nor did he go to Germany and meet Messerschmitt ... nor did Royce develop the Merlin engine for Supermarine ... nor was there friend Crisp)and that is disappointing. This is a great story worthy of a great film!

It's a propaganda movie. Yes, there are lots of errors in it, including a few you left out. But be disappointed if that's your thing.
