D.Niven and the Pilots


I recently attended an outdoor classical music concert here in England where the Orchestra played The First of the Few theme music - accompanied by a Spitfire live display overhead.

At the end, the conductor told us his uncle was one of the Pilots whom had been talking to and asking David Niven questions about Mitchell. Apparently, they were not actors but actual Fighter Pilots and, after filming, David Niven told them to go and have a weekend at the Savoy Hotel in London - to order 'Wine, Women, and Song, etc.' - then David Niven picked up the total bill. What a gent...

My father was one of the fighter pilots in the film.(118 squadron)I have posted here previously but it seems to have been deleted.

The concert was performed by the Bournemouth symphony orchestra I think.If you are interested in the history of the making of the film,(IBSLEY RAF) near RINGWOOD I have some contact numbers of the airfield preservation society.
My father was in the film as one of the pilots!!(118 squadron)
