Fred Zinnemann raises this little film to a higher level. It is much better than you might expect.

No, it's not, it's actually quite terrible. Fred Zinnemann is overrated. He was lucky to get High Noon and From Here to Eternity, because he really wasn't that gifted and you can feel it very clearly in that silly Eyes in the Night. Everything is so exaggerated, it goes from improbable to ridiculous. Edward Arnold is mighty annoying, even more than Donna Reed's character, which is saying a lot!
