The Incredible Ruth Gordon !

I'm watching this movie right now and I think the acting is great. I was 5 years old when this movie was shown and I remember the fears we all had and the blackouts we had during this period of time when we were waiting to be attacked. Fortunately at that time we survived. I am not interested in the accuracies of the uniforms or what people did to survive as shown in the film. These are movies made in Hollywood or on location. What it depicts for me is the aggression that was going on during this time and the fear we all had. Now to get to the acting which I think is superb. I kept looking at the woman who was playing the mother of Ann Sheridan and I kept thinking "where do I know her from"? Then I thought, "she looks like Ruth Gordon". Came here to see that it surely was and she is a treasure. Her method of acting is unique and her speaking voice makes you stop and listen to whatever she is saying. Love her!!!!!

This is one of my favourite films! It's a gripping story well cast with superb acting - what more can one ask for? I think films made around this time are quite amazing (another fave of mine is "So Proudly We Hail"), and I really don't think we have any idea what it must have been like living through the uncertainties which were going on in the world at that time. Of course "Edge of Darkness" is a propaganda film, but after the atrocities many of the characters go through it has a very uplifting ending - which in its own way is a new beginning. I can only imagine how those who went to films like this during WWII needed to be reminded what they were fighting for, and I believe that this film is successful in this way.

I don't feel either Errol Flynn or Ann Sheridan were appreciated during their years in Hollywood. Both give excellent performances, and are backed up by an amazing array of top Hollywood talent!

Read my comments. Anyway, Ruth Gordon is the only character I kind of like. The rest made me laugh! Both sides by the way.
