"Everyone must do their duty"

"You have to. Consider it our missions in life. Everyone must do their duty. There is no place for idleness now. The harder it is, the better you feel once you have done the right thing".

The year was 1942, and the war rhetoric weighs heavily on the script that is behind this movie, which it seems obvious had some "input" from people with authority.
For this reason, it remains (after second viewing) my least favorite of Ozu's talkies.

"I am like Cryptonite to men. Cryptonite dipped in cellulite!"
