Probably the perfect length at only 73 minutes. What happened to movies this concise?

I rewatched Cat People last night. It was my second time seeing it.

Even though it is a very simple and straightforward story, I like this movie and find it very intriguing. Simone Simon is just great!

One thing that really stuck out to me though is its brevity. 73 minutes! Apparently back in the day of double-features it was common for B-movies to come in at under 80 minutes.

I could see arguments for Cat People being too short. Some might say that Oliver and Irena's relationship needed more time to develop or that the ending is too abrupt. I could see that. But I think it's probably just the right length to tell its story and keep the pace up.

What happened to movies this concise? These days it's exceedingly rare to see a feature film that's not at least 90 minutes, and even the 90-minute film is relatively rare these days.

I think we need more films that get in, punch hard, and get out before wearing out their welcome.
