Question about Dr. Judd going back to the apartment (possible spoiler)

When Oliver, Alice and Dr. Judd are leaving the apartment, it’s been noted that Dr. Judd ‘forgets’ his cane in order to go back the apartment and unlock the door, so that he can go back alone later and meet Irena. He does this without Oliver and Alice realizing what he has done. Later, Oliver and Alice are menaced at their office by Irena’s cat form. After they ward off Irena’s attack, Alice calls Dr. Judd at the apartment to warn him. How does Alice know that Dr. Judd is at the apartment?

reply

the same question i d like to ask... anyone knows?

He toughens and withdraws and keeps himself guarded.

reply

Alice has known him for years and knows the devious way his mind functions (the same as hers). She can guess where he is and why.

reply

Maybe they tried calling him at the office before calling the apartment but they didn't show it in the film?

reply

How the hell could anyone forget their walking cane? Also, I'm probably wrong about this or someone else would have noticed it, but I thought that he put the cane inside the couch or something when I first saw it.

reply

Yes, he hid the cane to make sure the others wouldn't spot it on the way out and remind him to pick it up, thereby removing his excuse to go back up and unlock the door.

Of course people can forget canes. You just have to remember that men who didn't need a cane for any practical reason used to carry "walking sticks" as a fashion accessory, a bit like the way that some women once carried parasols.

reply

Well said. Even in the world of 2015, where our planet is populated by such incredibly clever folk, people forget gloves, umbrellas, eyeglasses, cell phones, and even keys. To the poster, all I can say is "duh!"

reply

I'd have to re-watch the scene, but my most reasonable guess is that they figured they'd try the house to see what they can get, and got lucky.

Yay! Random!

reply

When Alice is on the phone with him, she says they tried him at his hotel several times and he wasn't there. They'd all been waiting to talk to Irena, so Alice and Oliver must have just logically deduced Dr. Judd could have been back at the apartment. Even though they didn't know he'd unlocked the door, they could have assumed the landlady let him in if he returned there.

reply

Yeah, that scene is just strange, it makes little to no sense, especially with her being so phlegmatic about Dr Judd answering from her darling's apartment. Instead of the phone call, they should have shown him sneaking back.
