Wienerschnitzel.

I would order some Ingrid Bergman. I hope she wouldn't mind.

A Rickey.

reply

I'd get a cheeseburger.

I'd order a glass of Hercules, an ingredient I see listed from time to time in old recipe books, and one that ceased to exist some time in the '40s or '50s. Rumor has it that it was a fortified wine, flavored with yerba mate, but no one knows for sure. A very, very old bartender, who was behind the stick in the 1940s, once said he recalled it being pink and tasting slightly of anise, but who's to say what Hercules was? I'd be to say, were I to order a glass of the stuff at Rick's!

reply

Indeed.

Like everyone else at Rick's, I'd be trying to numb my feelings on what was left of the money I fled with, so I'd order whatever had the highest ration of alcohol content per penny spent.

Probably straight vodka, with a glass of tonic to help force it down. I'd get my food somewhere cheaper.

reply

Domestic beer might be a better cheaper option. You could drink it slowly whilst watching the cabaret and hoping Yvonne would saunter past.

reply

Given the circumstances, I don't think I'd be in a mood to drink slowly.

Nah, I'd have to check the price list, but I think the vodka with a sip of tonic would be the quickest and cheapest way to get blind shitfaced.

reply

I'm guessing Rick's would feature foods that American and European visitors are used to. It's the kind of place that tourists go to because they don't want to actually experience the local culture.
