Does anybody know what Peter Lorre is saying to the kitten?

I know it's dumb, but I don't speak German and it's bugging me. Apparently the people who did the subtitles on the DVD didn't know either. Any German speakers here?

The might have been in German--I don't recall, but the majority of the phrases he was following with, "That means . . ." in this film were Latin.

He was saying, "Aude Scheckelinda" or something, which means, "Go for it, cutie!" I thought at first, when he pointed his finger at it and said it, that it meant, "Behave yourself!"
