When he returned from the war, he was definitely more mature looking, but still in his early thirties. I agree with you--he looks to be in his thirties, at least, in this movie. Just a few years earlier, 1937's 'Thin Ice' and then, the following year, in 'Marie Antoinette,' he looked like his voice was only ready to change.

We forget that Mr. Power died at an early age--forty-four or so--but by the time he didn't quite finish 'Solomon and Sheba, the years--and drink--had taken their toll on him.

My favorite Power film, in retrospect, was 'Zorro'--he seemed just right in this 1940 film.

P.S. 'The Black Swan' was not my favorite George Sanders film. I'm used to his looking like he did in 'The Portrait of Dorian Gray.'

Are we talking maturity or wrinkles-wise?

He does look older than his late 20's (I guess), but 42?! No way, although he would have to be the sexiest 42 year-old I've ever seen. I could barely keep my saliva in, he had me drooling so much!

On your first point, agreed. I would think 35-36 max.

On your second point, SO. UNBELIEVABLY. HOT.

I never even thought about his age in this, strangely enough. If he looks older some of it has to do with the facial hair which certainly matures someone - compare how he looked in Yank in the RAF compared to this, and they were made about the same time.

Also he was a chain smoker; but I saw King of the Khyber Rifles at the Egyptian Theatre, which was made in the early '50s. He's very tanned in the film and with that big screen and closeups, his skin looked absolutely beautiful, and he was incredibly handsome in the movie. And he was nearly forty there.

I never thought about his age. I was thinking how handsome he was.

There's just something about a pirate if he's made up right . I wasn't thinking about his age, either, which is weird because I normally think about that with actors/actresses.

I think everyone looked older then-even in my own family.I thinkit was the times they lived in.Everyone dressed well and smoked too much -The smoking certainly aged people faster

Ummmm, wow! How stupid can you be? Does anyone really give a flying toss about his age when the movie is so good? I see this all the time on these board, "oh she looks so old" or "hmmm, he aged so Bad.". Superficial twat!
