A good film all around

Saw this film for the first time tonight, and I was pleasantly surprised. I expected good performances from Henry Fonda and Agnes Moorehead, but the entire cast was very good. In my opinon Lucille Ball turns in one of the best performances of her career. Ray Collins and Sam Levine (who would later star on Broadway as Nathan Detroit in "Guys And Dolls") were wonderful in their supporting roles.

I agree. Saw it on Saturday for the first time. I went to the gym yesterday morning (Sunday) and a friend came up to tell me about a Lucy film he saw the day before on TCM. It was The Big Street. We both raved about it. My favorite Lucy movie. Loved it a lot and look forward to seeing it again. Lucy was wonderful and never looked more beautiful. Although her character was a terrible person her performance was spot on. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, like you have ever seen Lucy.

Found it hard to enjoy The Big Street. Gloria's attitude gradually became unsympathetic and as a result made me wonder what Pinks saw in her.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".
