who is the little boy prodigy on the piano shortly before the hoedown number?

I wondered myself. I found him a little creepy though with his side glances, lol.

We just watched this movie and couldn't figure out why that child appears like that - out of nowhere he walks in, plays a piece (brilliantly for that age) and then walks out. We couldn't help but wonder if his appearance was a payoff to someone for financing or otherwise helping with this film.

As for the side glances, we thought he was checking his director, coach and/or parents.

I believe it's Dickie Hall...it looks like him anyways. He appears as Nick Jr. In the 4th Thin Man movie (Shadow of the Thin Man). Under his name on imdb.com he is not listed as appearing in this movie, but I do believe it is him.

I can see why someone might think the segment superfluous, but I found it hilarious that in all the hustle and bustle, this cute little tyke strolls in, plays his virtuoso bit on the piano and then just strolls out without being noticed at all by anyone putting on this "talent show". Almost surreal!
