Hedy, Lana, or Judy?

They were all so young and beautiful in this. Which one do you prefer?

Lana is the prettiest for me, no contest.

Judy the most talented, Hedy the most beautiful, Lana the sexiest.

Hedy.

Well, Lana I suppose, I like the scenes between her and Jimmy.

Hedy....she doesn't have to act, sing, dance, talk....all she has to do is show up. Seeing this for the first time last night (TCM) provided me with my first Lana Turner movie....

Very pretty....

I think Lana was the most beautiful, then of course Hedy. Now Judy Garland is cute, but the clothes they made her wear were awful. She looked like an old lady with a young face. And Judy's hair style was awful. She was such a cutie and they never dressed her right. Thank God she had a wonderful voice!

Thanks, thought I might be the only one who noticed this or had this as an opinion. "She looked like an old lady with a young face." Perfect.

I think Judy was the most beautiful woman on screen.

Judy all the way! She was so beautiful in her early pictures...I never really liked Lana Turner...

reply

Judy was for me the most natural and most beautiful of the three.

I agree re: Judy Garland's wardrobe/hair in this film. When she's dressed as a Follies star in a costume which looks like a collection of pom-poms, you can tell that she feels as ill-dressed as she was. Of more concern was her excessive thinness in this film. Somebody from MGM should have noticed that she was way too thin in this film.

reply

Judy. Probably some of the best acting Lana does, Hedy typically just stands there, but Judy's always the winner in my book.

reply

It depends what you're looking for. Judy Garland's talent was undeniable, and she shines in this film. Lana Turner, for me at least, was one of the most beautiful actresses ever, and her final walk down the staircase is one of her greatest moments. I am unconvinced by Hedy Lamarr. Her beauty is obvious, but there never seems to be anything going on behind the eyes, and the delivery of her lines is usually wooden in the extreme.

So, for my money at least, I would go for Lana (although I also love Judy).

reply

Judy will always be number one for me in anything.

If I could, I would sign my own name underneath your post. Well summed up, cheers!

Funny, because Hedy Lamarr was actually brilliant in real life. And for me she's the most beautiful then, now, and probably forever.

But, I love Judy Garland, and Lana Turner was stunning. A movie can't go wrong with those three ladies.

I guess it's like looking at clouds. You see one thing and I see another. Peace.

reply

Judy has the most talent but I am not a fan. Lana and Hedy were both stunning but I think Lana had the most screen presence in this one. And in one scene she has a hat that I'd kill for.

Hedy, Lena, and Judy in that order.

I'm almost done watching it for the first time, and his is the first movie with lana turner that i've seen.
and while i love judy and hedy, lana tops them both in this movie.
she's beautiful, and acts great.
she has just become my favorite actress.
and since jimmy stewart has always been my favorite actor, i guess this should be my favorite movie.

Congrats on discovering the great Lana Turner. Go out and rent The Postman Always Rings Twice.

FridaCorona--it's awesome that you found someone you like in Lana Turner, but favorite actress...after one film? I highly encourage you to watch Imitation of Life, The Postman Always Rings Twice, and These Glamour Girls...the first two are noted for her acting, and the third is just swell.

He said it's all in your head, and I said, so's everything--
But he didnt get it.

Hedy is certainly the most beautiful. She's stunning in her close ups, but next to Judy and Lana in this film, she doesn't have much to work with in terms of her character.

Lana is the sexiest and she made the most of this opportunity and steals the picture as she has the flashiest role and gives the flashiest performance.

Overall Judy is the most talented, but I wish she had been allowed her character to grow up a little bit more.

My favorite scenes in the movie are any between Judy and Lana. They really work well together as they are such different types. I know Judy was envious of Lana's glamour, but apparently they got along in real life and their mutual liking for one another comes across in the movie. About 10 years after the making of Ziegfeld Girl, they were next door neighbors and would visit often as thier girls Cheryl and Liza played.

They were friends but fell out for awhile because Lana went and boned every guy that Judy liked. Tut tut.

They are both cool in this movie but I enjoyed Lana's scenes more. She looks badass when she lifts her hat a little to drink her beer.

As for Hedy...the lights are on but nobody is home. Although I liked the scene where her face lights up when she sees Franz playing the violin.

judy all the way....
yes i do love lana,i think she is great and this is the only film i have seen with hedy lamarr, but i still think she was good and extremely beautiful, but judy is the true talent of the 3.
whenever judy sings i always fall into a trance like the only thing i can hear is her voice and no matter what even if i am in a crowded room

There is a scene with a close-up of Hedy with a scarf over her hair. Catherine Zeta-Jones anyone? I really saw a resemblance.
Anyway, I'll go with Lana for the most beautiful. Hedy always has that detached far away look. Someone posted that all she had to do was show up, well I think that's all she did really. I apologize in advance to her fans.

"I apologize in advance to her fans."

Not at all....I like Julie Newmar as well, and in fact in one movie, all Julie Newmar did was, literally, just showed up....(Lil' Abner). With regard to acting, I'm pretty easy to fool. I thought she was good in this as say, "Samson and Delightful"....oooops Delilah
