black and white?

was this film dubbed into colour? i don't remember the copy i saw being in black and white?

reply

If there's a colorized version of it, I'm not aware of it. Rita Hayworth made a Technicolor musical with Gene Kelly in 1944 called COVER GIRL. Maybe you're thinking of that one?

reply

i think now having seen the film again and it had been a while that i got confused because the stills on the dvd cover are in colour, incidentally is cover girl any good?

reply

Oh, I love Cover Girl. And Rita Hayworth looks so luminously beautiful in it that it hurts!

Some lovely music, and the friendship among Gene, Rita, and Phil Silvers is so much fun. Eve Arden also contributes wonderfully to the comedy. I think the electricity is stronger between Hayworth and Astaire, but she shares a brief romantic dance with Kelly (to the lovely "Long Ago and Far Away") in this one, too.

Cover Girl is far better than You'll Never get Rich (or even the somewhat better You Were Never Lovelier). Although I love Astaire (with and without Rogers, though particularly with), his two films with Rita Hayworth are among his weaker offerings. Hayworth is luminously beautiful and a fine dancer, but the songs and music are unmemorable, the plots drag, and the supporting casts are weak (where, oh where is Horton, Blore, Broderick, etc.).

Rita,Maureen O'Hara, Rhonda Fleming -all belong in Technicolour!
