My ranking of Universal's monsters

1. The Wolf Man ( monstrous & first Universal monster I saw)
2. Creature from the Black Lagoon (shocking)
3. Dracula (cool & suave)
4. Frankenstein's monster (tragic)
5.The Invisible Man (crazy)
6. The Mummy (Terrifying)
7. The Phantom of the Opera (tragic as well)

What is your ranking of these seven iconic monsters?

I really like the first two, then the others trickle down.

1. Frankenstein's Monster (at least the first two FR films)
2. The Wolf Man (he and Talbot are cool)
3. Dracula (third by default....I like Lugosi, Carradine was ok)
4. The Mummy (he looked great but wasn't too interesting-like the
Mummy's Hand and Tomb the best)
5. The Creature (he is striking, though)
6. The Phantom (doesn't do anything for me)
7. Invisible Man (ditto, though I liked the Abbott and Costello version)

Just curious (not complaining). How did the Creature get lumped in with the Universal Monsters when it came out almost 20 years after all the others ?

Universal Studios produced their string of horror films for 25 years. Thought the films featuring the Creature, aka the Gill-Man, were among the last in the series, they are still certainly a part of the series.

Jekyll and Hyde was Paramount, not Universal.

Frankensein's Monster
Dracula
The Wolfman

Creature from the Black Lagoon

Come on Bela Legosi is who everyone thinks of first, when you think of Dracula.

1. Frankenstein's Monster - He is the most interesting to me as he is not really evil but mostly just confused and misunderstood. He also has the best series by far.

2. Dracula - Definitely the most evil and malicious of them all, but oddly suave and charming at the same time. I wish Bela Lugosi could have played him more than twice. Never was a big fan of John Carradine's portrayal.

3. The Wolfman - Laurence Talbot is probably the most complex of the monsters, his constant inner struggle with his lycanthropy makes for a truly heartfelt and engaging watch. Love when he transforms into a vicious werewolf too.

4. The Mummy - Imhotep and Kharis are two very different mummies, the former being evil and malevolent like Dracula and the latter being a slow walking, shambling zombie-like creature who is usually just a pawn working for a greater evil. Both are great.

5. Creature From the Black Lagoon - A good example of why humans shouldn't mess with nature. The Creature is more or less like a dangerous animal defending its habitat from unwanted trespassers.
