The title character in THE WOLFMAN is terrifying. Unfortunately, the plot is a complete rehash of FRANKENSTEIN. I doubt one had to watch this franchise back-to-back (like I did) to realize that.
Villagers go after the Wolfman and the Frankenstein Monster because of murders committed by said monsters, and both monsters became transformed through no fault of their own. All similarities end there.
The FM longs for acceptance when it becomes apparent he can't have acceptance from the human race, he wants revenge on his creator (then, in Bride, he longs for female companionship with one of his kind). And the monster is always the monster.
Larry Talbot, once he realizes what he becomes during a full moon, longs only for death. And because he commits horrible acts while "under the influence", he is tortured when he becomes Larry again. It can be seen as a metaphor for addiction or rage.
