This movie grows on me each time I watch it. The showdown scene between Crawford & Garson is memorable. Great dialogue. I also love Joan in the opening scenes with Robert Taylor and Spring Byington.

Just watching it for the first time now. I'm totally in love with Joan, Greer & Robert so it was a thrill to see it on the TCM lineup today.

This is a perfectly lovely drawing room comedy brought to the screen. I find all the actors to bring total conviction to their role. It is certinaly one those flms that you have to give your full attention to in these times, when the spoken word is not as attention getting as constant action and quick cuts. Therefore it certainly appeals to a certain taste. Ther earlier version with Ann Harding and Myrna Loy was indeed a success, but I find the confrontation scene between Garson and Crawford mush more convicing as performed these two excellent actresses. i also think Robert Taylor very well cast and also alot of fun in this role, when I usually find him more limited in what he is able to play well. Herbert Marshall adds class to the production. This film is done in the best MGM styleand I like it more each time I watch it.

I agree with all of you. I've seen this movie twice and love it! Greer Garson and Joan Crawford are so interesting - you cannot take your eyes off the screen. Robert Taylor is dashing and lovable and Herbert Marshall is so real in EVERYTHING he does. I find him to be fascinating! Strange little smile he gives briefly as he runs out to get his wife. I just ordered the movie from Amazon because I want to watch it again!

Great movie. Just saw it for the first time. I'm also a fan of "drawing room" comedy and all that clever banter. Spring was a little too much for me at times, but I loved Joan and Greer. Nice to see Joan in a role like this.

I watched this for the fist time a couple of days ago.
I really loved this film. What a fun discovery for me, thanks TCM.
What I loved most was the script with wonderful dialogue, especially between Greer and Joan.
Spring Byington was a real treat to watch.
I loved the costumes and sets, how I would love to live in that cottage with the pool.

I rate it a 9.

Loved when Garson first appears in the film. Could have done fewer close ups of Crawford.

reply

LOL so right! I always have to giggle when men in movies talk about how gorgeous Crawford is...I just don't see it. And next to a beauty like Garson...oh well, 'nuff said. And let me say I do admire Crawford's work as an actor, I just have never thought her a beauty.
