underrated

this is one the most un-derrated westerns of the 40's
could it be,,because of its stars robert young and den jagger????

reply

I think so, plus, Virginia Gilmore's character was no more fully developed than a saturday morning shoot-em-up schoolmarm. And Carradine was wasted in his bit. Young suffered from that ugly grin and Jagger's voice always seemed to be on the edge of breaking into a sob.

right,,i think that was youngs 1st western???after that i think he was in that adventure flick,,,north west passage with ST..but i think he did a pretty good job as a cowboy??...

Watching this movie right now on TCM and I don't see anything wrong with Dean Jagger and Robert Young or Virginia Gilmore for that matter. I watch these movies purely for Randolph Scott whom I adore even though he's been gone all these years. Gilmore is very pretty and I like Robert Young, but he better not get the girl in the end and Scott better not die!!!!!!! LOL Good movie so far and scenery is breath taking. Oops! Almost forgot to mention Slim Summerville who is always a treat!!!

I watched most of it till I had to leave for work so I taped the ending. Good movie with great atmosphere. Especially the scenes in town. Didn't recognize Dean Jagger with his hair.

I am watching this now and came here to post a comment on the cast. However, much of what I would have said has been said here. So - great cast, well-done movie.

p.s. Dean Jagger with hair!

Oh, my God! They're turkeys!

I'm surprised there is hardly any actively on this board, I though Western Union was great. The chemistry between the characters felt natural and each main character had their own story which made for great viewing. Vance trying to redeem himself for past mistakes, Edward showing his determination for his dream to become a reality and Richard learning about the ways of the west and proving himself to others. It has a great mixture of comic relief, romance and drama which made for excellent viewing.
