Better than Merely Good

Yes, this may be a "B" movie, but what a "B"! When I first saw it I was dumbfounded so little is known of the resistance in Nazi Germany as far as film is concerned. There are so very few of them. Another good one is "Hotel Berlin" but it is not as good as this one. What nerve those people had who went against the Hitler Juggernaut. Their actions, if not their names, will live on.

Let it be unsaid: insignificance is the locus of true increpation.

I don't know why this would be considered a B movie. Its speculation or depiction of how the underground movement worked against Nazi Germany was intriguing. And the growing apprehension about whether Kurt would discover his girl and brother was involved and what he'd do was certainly emotionally gripping. I thoroughly enjoyed this "B movie".

Sadly, had to miss this movie shown on TCM this evening because had an unexpected visitor into modern action flicks.

For your reference, they were called B movies by the studio heads and financiers because as a product they didn't soak up many resources and consequently weren't expected to produce much of a profit. Depending on the people on a film project, though -- skilled, hungry and on the way up -- they often turned out to be handy moneymakers and sometimes enduring classics.

People over at "The Seventh Cross" site likened that movie made in 1944 starring Spencer Tracy to this movie. The Seventh Cross was excellent. I'll look for this movie when it comes on TCM.
