Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson...

was hilarious in this movie! He stole the show. My friend and I would crack up every time he came on screen. Poor guy must have spent most of the film wet from being dropped in the well all those times. Good movie made better by his performance.

Eddie did a fantastic job in this delightful little movie. I hope that was a dummy they were dropping in the well, and Eddie was already in the water, waiting for his lines. He was a smashing comedian, excelling in roles that were relegated to African-Americans in a less than politically correct time. Just a wonderful comedy/drama!

Absolutely hilarious! He certainly had the comedic skills.

I watched Topper and then Topper Returns immediately after. I think if I had seen Topper Returns on it's own, without seeing Topper, I might have liked it better. I felt that the success of Topper relied on the three characters chemistry together. In Topper Returns I felt that the Cary Grant character type was lacking.

But I agree with you. Eddie was hilarious. Stole the show. They should have called it,Topper and Eddie.

As a Cary Grant fan, it pains me to say that Topper was a lackluster movie (that had no point to it if you really think about it), and Grant had no on-screen chemistry with Constance Bennett.

Topper Returns was fun from start to finish, and Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson and Billie Burke made the movie even more enjoyable.

I liked the shout-out he gave to Jack Benny: "I'm going back to Mr Benny."

About 1990, I was attending a Saturday luncheon with a homeless coalition in a Seattle church. A black man next to me made a comment about an issue and said, "...if people don't like that then I'm Jack Benny!" Without missing a beat I said, "If you're Jack Benny..." and in a "Rochester" voice I said, "...then I must be Rochester, Mr. Benny!" The whole room went silent. Until I said that I did not mean it in a racist kind of way. Then the black guy said, "I wasn't frowning on any racial thing, just on your delivery." Then the room burst into laughter, much to my relief! Thank you, Eddie Anderson, for giving us a lifetime of treasures!!!

I saw this movie years ago as a young girl in the 80's. I recently rewatched it on YouTube. Rochester was funny as hell! I hope that was a dummy in the water as well.
