They just left Grandma and the dog behind?!

Am I missing something? When they left for the "Poor Farm" Jeeter and Ada were by themselves without even a thought of taking Grandma with them?! The dog...ok...it's just a dog...but STILL!

The end of this movie just left me shaking my head. :/

Good catch... I'd kinda' forgotten about grandma, too! lol

I noticed at the very end, after Captain Tim had brought Jeeter and Ada back to their *own* "poor farm," they suddenly thought to ask "where IS grandma, haven't seen her around," or something to that effect. They surmised that possibly she had gone off into the woods, perhaps even to die, and that they'd get around to looking for her, maybe. So maybe it's an indication that they never really thought about her much, even when they packed up to head off for the Poor Farm.

As far as the dog, I wasn't too worried about the dog, I figure a dog would have sense to simply pick up and take up with the closest neighbors, say, over at the old mansion where Sister Bessie Rice lived.

It's a comedy. It's hysterical that they left grandma behind.

In the book, Grandma is treated horribly by the family. She has to steal food from them in order to stay alive. At the end the car backs over and kills her and her son buries her in the field like an animal. Any sympathy that I have for the Lesters was pretty well gone by then. I saw the movie back in the 60s and it was hilarious.
