I'd ask the opposite question to the OP, why re-make this film?
Especially since you say yourself that no actors would make it better than these did.
As for a new generation, I'm in my 20's and I watch lots of "old" movies. I enjoy them and they don't bore me - I guess it has to do with having an attention span and a working imagination. It's exceedingly rare that a "re-make" is better than an original, although if you look around there are tons of movies that you wouldn't have even known were re-makes of other films. It just takes some searching and you realize the same stories are being told a lot of the time anyway.
To me, re-making any truly wonderful movie would be like re-writing a classic book and slapping a new cover on it & new illustrations inside! Surprised they don't do that yet - I'm sure they'll be re-making this one soon enough, though, just for the $, since it takes very little creativity and since very few people have enough imagination and long-term memory in our world culture today to just watch and appreciate the original...
Forgive me, but it pains me to see this question asked repeatedly on the page of every awesome older movie that I look up on imdb...
