Nigel Bruce as Beaky steals this film

I have never thought of this one as one of Hitchcock's very best films, but when Nigel Bruce comes on screen the whole film just goes to another level.
He's got me wanting to call everyone "Ole Bean".

It kills me the way he's so joyous about the fact that he and Johnny are no good gambling scoundrels but he's positive Lina is going to eventually find it as hysterical as he and Johnny both do. He's just a really charming kind of low level sociopath.
Johnny comes off as kind of an a-hole in the film, but Beaky plays it perfectly.
I have somewhat of a difficult time not despising Johnny.

I enjoyed his performance. He was a good character actor.
