Ms. Fontaine has had many great films in her too short list of roles. (On that score I have felt that she had the misfortune of turning 40 and the effect that had on many actresses at the same time that tv was so much undercutting the film industry and changing the kinds of films that got made, but I digress.) I suppose Rebecca is my favorite, and must after that acknowledge the great performance, apparently her own favorite, In Letter from an Unknown Woman. Does Suspicion come next? I don't know. It has some competition. I am a big fan of Jane Eyre, but there's also The Constant Nymph, Born to be Bad, Ivy, The Bigamist, even This Above All are in the running.

My two Fontaine favorites are - Rebecca and Suspicion - great movies and I've always been a big Hitchcock fan. The amazing thing about Rebecca is that we never find out what the leading lady's name is in the story. That doesn't happen often in movies, especially romantic melodrama.
