SUNDOWN: DVD digitally remastered?

Watched the "SUNDOWN" R-1 DVD... on the cover "digitally remastered".
I don't know what is meant with "remastered": the image is rather poor, and the sound is very bad: disortion and often mumbling voices. So, enjoying this film is not a real pleasure. Subtitles could be of help, but are missing.
I am looking forward to a really restored and remastered copy of this nice movie.

Weird... another movie with Gene Tierney suffers identical bad image and audio qualities: "THE SHANGHAI GESTURE" R-1 DVD.

"Digitally remastered" is a meaningless phrase that distributors of cheapjack DVDs use to sell their public domain films. Ignore it whenever you see it. If it has any meaning at all it's "we've put this on a DVD."

I got an excellent print in the public domain box set from Millcreek titled 50 Combat Classics, you can get it at Amazon for 20.00 shipped from a 3rd seller at their website. There are, for a public domain set of movies, some very decent films included and decent to actually good quality compared to other public domain stuff I've seen. The quality of Sundown's print was as good as many films I've seen on the TCM channel so that's pretty good.

TCM says it has a newly restored version available only through them.

Yep! I found this: http://tinyurl.com/325w4xc.

20 bucks is a lot of money for a DVD. Blu-ray discs are even cheaper.

I couldn't agree more with the post by "famalberts." Subtitles would have helped me deal with the technical shortcomings. While disappointing, any chance to see Gene Tierney on film during this period has it's own rewards.

Just saw this on YouTube and it was not bad. Sound could have been better, but for free I can't complain.

sounds like the same experience i had watching this, what a neat opening though, kind of drags on after what appears as a cool start, and quite the change when it gets to london, a positive thing is even though it's shot in the dark it's easy to see what's going on, even the translated title i know it by has the word night in the title, pretty unusual with a war movie rated from age 7, and there is almost constant background music, the end credits looks pretty long for such a small set of cast you get the impression of during the movie, i know there aren't a lot of buzz on this board but i'm surprised no one has brought up the firing, it looks like something out of star wars, can't mention amsterdam without tulips, right. man, speaking of tcm, do i miss that station or what, that channel used to air in the part of the world where i live, formerly it went under tnt and shared station with cartoon network airing during the daytime, tcm aired classic movies around the clock, then the last year it aired or so, it was changed to air obscure newer movies before the channel went off air here.
