great chemistry

saw most of this movie the other night and highly enjoyed it. i thought that mccrea and lake really had great chemistry as the leads....you could feel the sexual tension. and it didnt help that mccrea looked more attractive than i'd ever seen him, while lake was just...stunningly gorgeous, and so cute. the movie had me laughing out loud, but was also very touching. i may rent it so i can see the beginning!

They do have great chemistry but apparently didn't get along. I have heard that McCrea turned down "I Married a Witch" the following year to avoid appearing with the temperamental Lake a second time. Frederick March took the role and didn't get along with Lake at all. Stage-trained March didn't care for the highly-publicized Lake and her hairstyle; Lake poked fun at his theatrical nature.

She and Alan Ladd did five movies together, one reason being her short stature made him look tall. I don't know if they got along.

Lake said in her autobiography that she and Ladd had pleasant, very professional relationship, but devoid of give-and-take. She didn't know him that well, but they got along.

Lake and McCrea worked together again in 1947 in the film, "Ramrod".

Did you know that Veronica Lake was actually 6 months pregnant during the making of this film.
