John Seitz

Cinematographer John Seitz really got to show his talent here. As Sullivan dispenses money to the poor and downtrodden in back alleys and elsewhere in semi-darkness, he's stalked by a baddie who wants it all.

The scenes of the attacker are so shadowed, that I often had trouble understanding what was occurring, but the editor kept those images remaining on screen for a long enough time to give us slow pokes a chance to figure out what was actually on screen and gave our imagination a chance to fill in the blanks.

Seitz was a master of that "dark scene" B/W photography.
