Veronica Lake

Hot damn!

reply

Not my type.

But there's a great reference to veronica lake in "the major and the minor."

reply

Why did she, (and Mae West) talk like that?, it sounds so over acted annoying and silly.

reply

It was a style of the times. Same as people mumble in films these days; which sounds annoying and silly even now, much less in 60 years time.

reply

yup

reply

I'll go with the OP - Hot damn!

Always liked her for both her looks and her acting.

reply

She ruled in this.

reply

She spoke fine and acted beautifully. Criticisms here are moronic.

reply

I agree. I notice nothing strange about her diction.

reply

I normally don't comment on threads like these, but I completely agree. She was a stunner.

reply

And add to that the trivia point I just learned--she was 6 to 8 months pregnant when she filmed this!!! Only 2 women knew her secret: the amazingly fabulous Edith Head, who designed her wardrobe, and Mrs. Preston Sturgess. She was afraid they'd never trust her with such a physical role if they knew. So Head designed the outfits to hide the bump...and you can see her holding her arms in front, her purse, etc... Only once did I see where she really really looks pregnant--the scene when she first returns with Sully to the tramp's life, wearing the boy's jacket, and it's evening.... It's so obvious there, but I never noticed until I already knew. And in most scenes, you'd never guess. Edith Head was the greatest designer ever for the big screen. And Veronica Lake was gorgeous!

reply

She must've been small during pregnancy because a big bump isn't easily hidden by wardrobe.

reply

SamoanJoes, is that the real you?

Can you hear me now, or have I been speaking to the dead this whole damn time?!

reply

I hear ya. They don't make them like they used to *sigh*
