Remake of One Sunday afternoon

This movie is a remake of One Sunday afternoon starring a very young Gary Cooper as Biff. It's basically the same story but an entirely different movie.

There's a whole lot more to the plot in this movie than in the other but there are many aspects of the other that I prefer. I tried to decide which I prefer but I think I can appreciate both; each for different reasons.

If you've seen both, let me know if you have a preference and why.

I prefer The Strawberry Blonde as I found Cooper's Biff to be quite unlikable. Lloyd Nolan played the role on Broadway and I've often wondered what he was like.

The musical version, also called One Sunday Afternoon, and directed by Walsh was well cast, but didn't capture the heart of the middle picture and the songs were unmemorable.

Which version did you see first? I saw One Sunday afternoon first and enjoyed it so I think I may have been biased. I also like Gary Cooper as an actor. As I think about it I think I do tend to favor whatever version I've seen first. That's not always the case but it happens more often than not.

That said, it may not be bias at all. If I like the first version I'm more likely to be interested in seeing another version to see how another group of people interpreted it. If I did not like the first version I saw, I probably won't risk it as I think I may not like any other version either.

It could possibly be the "first seen" bias as The Strawberry Blonde was it for me. I find the original One Sunday Afternoon interesting, but after a couple of viewings I still can't warm up to it the way I have to the later picture.

Yeah, I thought that might have something to do with it.
