Why this Flic is GREAT

Walsh cleverly "underplays" the story and the performers which gives this beaut its charm;

Stunning lovelies in Rita and Livy.

Cagney is abs.beloved in his role and retains that toughness he's noted for.

Remarkably,I don't tire of the main song-such balance is found therein.

Carson & Hale are above average;and what a kick to see a young,handsome Reeves in the pic.

Tobias is jus'right.

Why is this movie great? You have two great classic beauties, DeHavilland and Hayworth in the same film.

The street smart, tough guy persona of Cagney is turned on it's head. Here, he loses every fight and gets played for a sucker. And yet, Cagney sells it!

Agreed with everything said here.

And also, what happens after the credits too.

This is such an underappreciated gem of a movie. Every time I watch it a new line of dialogue cracks me up. What a witty screenplay! (George Tobias almost runs away with it each time he's on screen.)
