Full of holes

This is a very good movie, but it is filled with holes and leaving us wandering about to many un-answered questions. First of all. Why did Matt's dad leave, we know he was in jail for killing a man. But was he on a trip when he did it, did he go to the store. Also, if Matt's father married his mother and lived their on the mountain why did anyone recognize him? Why didn't Shara's sister know him, or some of the towns people? He also wanted to cash a check for $100, but the store keeper only gave him $40. How did he give them $100 cash for the land? A film like this has to fill the holes. But this film didn't.
